Alright y’all… new music releases this week are actually doing something to my brain chemistry and I’m not okay.
I’m sitting here in my messy room at 2:37am, leftover cold coffee that tastes like regret, window cracked even though it’s freezing because the heater makes this horrifying death rattle noise, and I’ve probably streamed the new releases playlist about 9 times already. Anyway.
Here’s what’s currently destroying me (in the best way possible):
The tracks that immediately made me text “bro listen to this rn” to three different group chats
1. beabadoobee – “Take A Bite” (new single) God. This one. It’s giving early 2000s pop-punk nostalgia but make it devastatingly self-aware and prettier. I was literally walking through the grocery store at 11pm buying instant ramen when this dropped in my Discover Weekly and I almost cried in the condiment aisle. Very embarrassing. Very real. A beautiful, soft portrait of beabadoobee that feels modern-pretty yet carries the emotional weight — imagine this energy but with early 2000s pop-punk accessories like studded belts and smudged eyeliner.

Beabadoobee – ‘Take A Bite’ Single Review
This one leans into the nostalgic pop-punk side with Bea’s signature aesthetic — warm tones, a touch of grunge, and that introspective gaze that screams “I’m overthinking everything and it’s kinda destroying me (but prettily)”.
For the full “late-night grocery store breakdown” mood mixed with 2000s nostalgia:
Here’s a quick vibe picture of how this song feels in my head right now:
2. The Dare – full album “The Sex EP” finally expanded into “The Long Sex” (album drop)
This man is deranged in the most beautiful way possible. It’s like if 80s new wave and 2024 club kid energy had a baby in the backroom of a warehouse rave that never ended. I tried explaining this album to my mom and she just said “that sounds like a lot” and honestly… fair. I’ve been playing “Girls” on repeat so much my neighbors probably hate me. 3. Japanese Breakfast – new single “Mega Circuit Board Heart” from upcoming album
Michelle Zauner I will never recover. This one feels like crying in an airport at 4am and simultaneously wanting to run through a field of wheat. Very contradictory emotions. Very on brand for me in January. I’m including this because it’s the song I played when I found out my car needs $800 of repairs I definitely don’t have. Somehow it made it better?? Here’s a visual take on the bittersweet, contradictory magic of Japanese Breakfast’s new single “Mega Circuit Board Heart” — that perfect mix of 4 a.m. airport tears and the sudden urge to sprint through endless golden wheat.
First, imagine Michelle Zauner herself channeling that quiet, melancholic intensity:

Michelle Zauner Faced the “Double-Edged Sword” of Success and …
Rapid-fire other new music releases worth your ears this week
- yeule dropped another glitchy hyperpop fever dream single
- Saba & No ID previewed something that made me actually gasp out loud in public
- Charli XCX surprise remix package (because of course she did)
- a new Kelela track leaked/unofficially dropped on soundcloud and the tags are just “forgive me” and that’s all the marketing needed
Real talk from someone who’s emotionally fragile this week
I used to be super pretentious about music, like “oh I only listen to vinyl and I discovered this band in 2017” type shit. Now I’m just grateful when anything makes me feel something other than mild dread about the state of the world and my bank account. These new music releases this week? They’re doing that for me. Even if half of them are probably algorithm bait and I’ll hate them in three months.
