Oscar winners and snubs hit different every damn year, and the 2026 Oscars left me sprawled on my couch in this cramped Los Angeles apartment, surrounded by empty Trader Joe’s bags and some warm beer cans, yelling at the screen until my upstairs neighbor probably wanted to kill me. I thought I’d have it figured out after catching some of the contenders at those little theaters around Burbank, but nope. The Academy did its thing and I ended up second-guessing myself like an idiot.

I swore I’d just watch the main categories and crash early cause work was waiting, but ended up texting my buddy till 3 a.m., spilling coffee on my notes, and waking up still kinda pissed.

My Personal Oscar Winners and Snubs Meltdown in 2026

One Battle After Another took six awards including Best Picture and Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, which felt pretty earned after all the talk. Sinners grabbed four, with Michael B. Jordan finally getting Best Actor for playing those twin brothers — dude brought it and it was good to see him win. Jessie Buckley won Best Actress for Hamnet and made some history as the first Irish actress in that category, and Amy Madigan took Supporting Actress for Weapons, which was cool cause horror stuff rarely gets that nod.

But a bunch of the other decisions had me hitting pause and just staring at the ceiling.

Why These Oscar Winners Felt a Little Off to Me

Michael B. Jordan beating out Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Actor was a real surprise when it happened. I was sitting there in my old sweatpants, feet on the coffee table, and cheered when his name came up because Sinners had some real intensity. Still, I rewatched parts of Marty Supreme later that weekend and kept thinking Chalamet was doing something risky that didn’t get enough love.

Sean Penn winning Supporting Actor even though he didn’t show up to accept it had me half laughing and half shaking my head while eating cold Thai food straight from the carton. On the plus side, Autumn Durald Arkapaw becoming the first woman to win Best Cinematography for Sinners was a nice historic moment that cut through some of the mess.

    • Amy Madigan’s win for a horror role felt refreshing, like they were finally noticing something different.
    • But yeah, a few spots felt safer than I expected.

The Snubs That Still Have Me Heated Weeks Later

The biggest Oscar snubs this year really stung, especially Marty Supreme getting completely shut out despite nine nominations. That ping-pong drama had wild energy and Chalamet was all in — I drove home from the theater one night with windows down, still replaying scenes and thinking it deserved way more. Other films like Bugonia, Train Dreams, and The Secret Agent also walked away with nothing, which makes you wonder sometimes.

Delroy Lindo getting passed over in Sinners was rough too. He was a frontrunner and his work hit hard; I saw it twice and left convinced he’d take something. Instead the votes went elsewhere and I was grumbling on the couch like a cranky uncle.

I screwed up my own predictions pretty bad — bragged to coworkers at our watch party over pizza and cheap wine that certain things were locks. Ended up eating my words in the parking lot while we argued. Total me move.

What Oscar Winners and Snubs Really Show Us

After living out here and squeezing in screenings between the day job and traffic, I’ve realized Oscar winners and snubs often say more about campaigns and connections than straight quality. It’s messy and frustrating but that’s probably why I keep watching every March.

If you’re still catching up, here’s my half-assed advice from someone who’s been wrong plenty:

    • Watch the movies anyway, even the overlooked ones.
    • Trust your own gut more than the loud online takes.
    • Stock up on decent snacks because the show drags and the swings are real.

The night kinda fell apart into me knocking stuff over while trying to tweet coherent thoughts and waking up to a group chat full of memes. I spilled half my drink during one speech and just shrugged — at that point, whatever.

In the end, Oscar winners and snubs are one glittery night of statues and hurt feelings, but the films stick with you longer. I’m still thinking about some of those snubbed roles while stuck in traffic or grabbing coffee down the block.

What did you think of the 2026 Oscar winners and snubs? Drop your takes in the comments — was Michael B. Jordan’s win fair or did somebody get robbed? Stream the ones you missed this weekend, kill the lights, and decide for yourself. That’s what I did after cooling off and it helped a bit.

Thanks for reading my rambling, coffee-stained rant from my messy living room here in LA. Sorry about any typos or run-ons — wrote half this half-asleep with dishes still in the sink. Talk soon.
